In wallbox planning, you plan wallboxes and electric cars for your customer's project. You record which cars the household drives today and which EV replaces which old car, and you see straight away what the switch saves per year.
The planning feeds directly into the system simulation: charging demand, solar power in the car, fuel costs and savings appear there alongside solar, battery and heat pump.
Opening wallbox planning
In the project, open the Survey & Design tab and, in the Mobility section, click the Wallbox Planning tile. The first time you open it, autarc creates a planning automatically.
A project can have several wallbox plannings, e.g. one with one EV and one with two. In the header you switch between plannings, add another with Create new wallbox planning, and rename, duplicate or delete a planning.
The sidebar has three sections:
Existing cars: the cars the household drives today.Wallboxes: the planned charging points.Electric Vehicles: the planned new EVs.
Use + next to a section to add an item directly, or Add at the top of the sidebar. You choose wallboxes and EVs from My Products or the Product database. Click an item to open its details; use ... to rename or delete it.
Recording existing cars: the old car
Existing cars describe what the household pays for driving today. They are the baseline for every new EV. An existing car belongs to the project, not to a planning: it applies to every wallbox planning and every simulation of the project. If you delete it, it disappears everywhere.
Add it with + next to Existing cars and fill in:
NameandDrive type: e.g. “Family car” withPetrol,Diesel,ElectricorPlug-in hybrid. How to enter it:
By km(mileage, consumption and price),By cost(the annual fuel or charging bill) or, forElectriconly,By kWh(kilowatt-hours charged at home and away).Electricity for EVs and plug-in hybrids: the share
Charged at home (%), thePrice at homeand thePrice away from home. For a plug-in hybrid, also theElectric share (%)of the mileage.Usage patternandCharging profile: when the car is driven and when it charges (see below).
Below, you see what the car costs Per year and Per month, split into fuel, charging at home, charging away and the Total.
The customer already drives an EV
Record an existing EV as an existing car with Drive type Electric, not as a planned EV. Its charging then already counts as today's consumption and stays in every scenario. This shows, for example, how much solar power a new PV system puts into the car. With the Solar-optimised charging profile, you show what charging during the day is worth.
If you added it as a planned EV, the simulation would count its consumption as new and show today's situation without the car.
Adding a wallbox
Add a wallbox with + next to Wallboxes and choose a product. The details show the product data, e.g. brand, model, phases, number of charging points and price.
Charging power (kW)andNumber of units: how powerful and how many wallboxes of this type are planned.Already purchased: for an existing wallbox. Enter thePurchase priceif it should be taken into account.Assigned vehicles: UseAssignto link a planned EV to the wallbox. autarc shows how long the battery takes to charge with this wallbox.
Planning a new EV: old versus new
Add the new car with + next to Electric Vehicles and choose it from the Product database. The details show range, battery size, efficiency and price.
Replaces: Choose the existing car the EV takes over from, orNo carif it's an additional car. UnderTakes over (%)you set what share of the old car's mileage it takes over, e.g. 100% for a full replacement or 60% if the old car stays for long trips. An existing car can only be replaced by one EV.Annual mileage: From this and the car's efficiency, autarc calculates theAnnual vehicle consumption at home.Home charging percentage: how much is charged at home. The rest is charged away at thePrice away from home.Charging price at home: prefilled with the project's household electricity price.Charging profile:Evening chargingorSolar-optimised.
Below, Fuel versus charging shows the direct comparison: the fuel cost of the replaced car, the charging cost of the EV and the Saving per year or Extra cost per year. The Energy usage chart shows how the charging is spread over the year, depending on the usage pattern, e.g. Work commuter, Home Office or Weekend driver.
Modelling it in the simulation
The system simulation compares Current with your scenarios. The cars are split like this:
Current: TheMobilityrow shows all existing cars. You can edit their values there; you add or delete them only in wallbox planning. Fuel and the charging of existing EVs are today's costs.Scenario: In the
Wallbox / EVrow, choose underWallbox planningthe planning this scenario simulates. The link opens it directly. Below, each existing car showsReplaced by …orKept.
In the scenario, the household drives all the planned EVs, plus the existing cars that aren't replaced and the remaining share of partly replaced cars. The fuel costs saved and the extra charging appear in the cost comparison and in profitability, and the emissions saved in the environmental impact. If you switch the row off, the simulation leaves mobility out of both sides.
When does the car charge?
Charging profile:Solar-optimisedcharges between 8 am and 6 pm, peaking around midday; the simulation works out how much of that actually comes from the solar system.Evening chargingis the previous default. It only applies if all cars have the same charging profile; otherwise autarc uses the default.Usage pattern: spreads the charging over the year. Again, a pattern shared by all cars applies. In theWallbox / EVrow you can override it for a single scenario without changing the cars.Battery may supply wallbox: In the battery settings, you choose whether the battery may charge the car. It's off by default, so that stored energy stays in the building.

Typical cases
EV replaces a combustion car: record the diesel as an existing car, plan the EV,
Replaces= diesel,Takes over= 100%. In the scenario the diesel drops out and the EV charges.Second car goes electric, first car stays: record both cars as existing cars; the EV only replaces the second car.
Additional EV:
Replaces=No car. The simulation then only counts the extra charging, with no fuel saving.Customer already has an EV and is planning solar: record the EV as an existing car with
Electric; no planned EVs needed. The simulation shows how much cheaper charging becomes with solar power.
FAQ
Why does the simulation show no saving on the car?
Usually the old car is missing: without an existing car, or without Replaces, there are no fuel costs to drop, and the EV appears only as extra consumption. Also check that the scenario links the right Wallbox planning.
Why does the wallbox show no consumption (kWh) in the simulation?
The consumption comes from the cars, not from the wallbox. A wallbox on its own charges nothing, so the Wallbox / EV row shows 0 kWh as long as the planning only contains a wallbox. Add the planned EV under Electric Vehicles, with mileage and home charging percentage. Record an EV the customer already owns as an existing car with Electric.
Do I have to add existing cars again in every planning?
No. Existing cars belong to the project and appear in every wallbox planning and simulation. Changes apply everywhere.
I can't see any existing cars in the simulation.
You add them only in wallbox planning. If the Mobility row says “No existing cars recorded”, add them there. More on the simulation in the System simulation overview.
