What Is Located Below the Room?

This article explains how the position of a room—whether above the ground or other rooms—affects the heating load calculation.

Please specify whether the space beneath the room is ground (e.g., in a basement), a heated room, or an unheated room. This information has a significant impact on the calculated heating load required for the room.

Note: If an unheated basement is not included in the calculation, the adjacent ceilings should be treated as "adjacent to the ground." If basement insulation is present, an adjusted U-value for the ceiling can be specified. To simplify the calculation, the basement insulation can be assigned directly to the floor.
