What Is Located Above the Room?

This article explains how the position of a room—whether below an attic or another space—affects the heating load calculation.

Written by Thies Hansen

Please indicate whether the space above the room is exposed to outside air (e.g., in the case of an attic), or if it is a heated or unheated room. This information significantly influences the calculation of the required heating load for the room.

Note: If an unheated attic is not included in the calculation, the ceiling below it should be considered as "adjacent to outside air." If roof insulation is present, an adjusted U-value for the ceiling can be specified. To simplify the calculation, the roof insulation can be directly assigned to the top floor ceiling.
